Americas Army is a serious game simulating a first person shooter that was developed by the US government. The US government believed that using a serious game that will educate people on the subject will improve the public opinion on the US army. The US Army game play contains two major parts: The first part is the online training simulation that teaches the player about the basic skills that every soldier needs. The second part is the online game that allows players to compete vs. each other and gain experience in previous learned skills. The game was released in 2005 and by august 2007 had more than 4.8 million players which passed the basic trainings and became active players.
The reason we decided to write about Americas Army is first to expose a one more example of successful serious game that got popular and second of all the show the wide variety of possibilities that can be achieved using online serious games.
